Cullinan Diamond Mine: Old, but definitely not cold!

The Cullinan Diamond Mine (previously known as the Premier Diamond Mine) was established way back in 1905, and it appears that some people are under the impression that it is past its former glory. Not so! As the link to the heading will show, the Mine is alive and well, and still producing some of the most notable diamonds in the world. On 24 September 2009, a 507 carat white diamond of exceptional colour and clarity was recovered at this world-famous diamond mine, making it the 19th largest exceptional diamond to be recovered worldwide. The diamond, named the 'Cullinan Heritage', was sold earlier this year to a Honk Kong jewellery firm for R270 Million. The diamond was recovered along with 3 other exceptional diamonds, one a 168 carat diamond, and two diamonds of 58 and 53 carats respectively, which also fetched handsome prices on the international market. These spectacular findings follow the take over of the Mine from De Beers by Petra Diamonds, capital investment and development in excess of R100 Million over the past 18 months, and the recovery of a fancy vivid blue diamond in 2008. The blue diamond was named the 'Star of Josephine' by its buyer.

So girls, Cullinan remains THE home of a girl's best friend (and apparently now a man's as well)! Why not visit Cullinan, book an underground tour (one of the few operational mines internationally to allow such tours), select your gem, visit my salon for a pamper session, enjoy a delicious meal at one of our restaurants .... The possibilities are endless!

Mountain Bike Races

Well, if you needed any convincing that Cullinan is becoming increasingly popular as a venue for special events, the MTN Cullinan Ultra Marathon held on 28 August 2010 must certainly go a long way towards doing just that. And it is not the only mountain bike race to have been staged locally. In 2009, the Nissan Diamond Rush in the MTB Series achieved such success and rave reviews that the event was again held in July 2010. Do you want YOUR event (big or small) to be SPECIAL? Consider Cullinan as your venue! Feel free to contact us for more information. And by the way, I have just opened another new business: The Station Master's Cabin @CullinanJunction - self-catering accommodation in an excellent setting and with a unique character. More information to follow soon...
